TIPS FOR BENAKI MUSEUM:

"The new Benaki Museum building is located at 138 Pireos Street, one of the central development axes of Athens. The existing building, which is organized around a central courtyard, is already being refurbished, thanks to co-funding by the Ministry of Culture and the European Union. The new building covers a total area of 8,200 m2 with underground areas of 2,800 m2 and an internal courtyard of 850 m2. The exhibition halls span 3,000 m2. There is an amphitheater capable of seating 300, as well as areas to house the Museum services".

TIPS FOR STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CALTURAL CENTER. (SNFCC).
(Source Foundation Renzo Piano).

"The SNFCC is set in Kallitha quarter. In Greek "Kallithea"  means beautiful view.  The SNFCC disposes a splendid panorama to the Phalerum port, to Piraeus eastern part Castella (ancient Acropolis) and even to Acropolis of Athens and further to all Athens basin".
Phalerum was the main port of Athens before Themistocles fortified Piraeus in the fifth century BC. The ancient beach covered half of today's site, before the bay became silted up over the centuries by sediments from the river. Archaeological excavations carried out during the construction work have unearthed a number of tombs".

"..The story of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is more than anything else the story of an exemplary relationship between the architect Renzo Piano, and the client, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. It demonstrates that much in life is about the people, relationships an consequently trust..
The SNFCC is located in a country and a city dominated by the past. Integrating the past with the present and the future has always to proven to be an enormously complex and challenging task. Our vision of SNFCC was of a building that could seamlessly integrate acknowledging and respecting the past with a profound originality that points towards  the future. Renzo immediately understood the importance of the vision. His design of the SNFCC is a manifestation of the architects deep knowledge, understanding, appreciation and familiarity of the site's history and location , as well as its place within a vibrant contemporary urban landscape.
Working with his collaborators both inside and outside of Greece, he has created a public space based on four pillars - education, culture, sustainability and environment balance - in wich every one, staff and visitors Greeks and non - Greeks alike, can, in his own words, "feel at home, feel that they are belong to the same community".
A few years ago, then the New York Times architecture critic Nikolai Ouroussoff wrote that Renzo Piano's designs "bring us a step closer to a more enlightened society". What more could any of us ask for a building that has emerged during one of Greece's darkest times and there a more enduring legacy for Renzo Piano and his collaborators in this project?.

..HOPE, EXPECTATION AND BEAUTY.
(Source Foundation Renzo Piano).

"..a beauty that has nothing to to wit aesthetics, but rather with civilization, the idea of  sharing a place and a series of supporting cultural values bound up with this place.  A beauty linked to wisdom and knowledge. Some one has  rightly said that discovering things, understanding, developing, is one of the expressions of beauty. Think of all the projects that are closely bound up with knowledge, research and science. The design of the roof was a real laboratory of sustainability: It even has a physical laboratory, located inside the roof, which will be used by the University to conduct research into solar energy. The distance between the idea of beauty and that the knowledge is not so great. Both are part of this world of human desires, hopes, ambitions, and above all optimism".
